History of Bacon Experience

Bacon goes back… way back! Before refrigeration was available, people around the globe used salt to cure and preserve pork. In 1500 BC, the Chinese were salting and curing pork belly to make Lap Yuk.  Even Ancient Romans and Greeks made bacon.

Bacon pops up around the globe throughout history.

In The History of Bacon Experience, we’ll walk through some of it's history and learn about how bacon was made.

You’ll learn about:

  • The process of dry-curing and smoking bacon

  • Indigenous and enslaved Black influences on how bacon was made

  • Sample bacon recipes from 1500 BC and 18th century Virginia

Plus, each participant can enjoy a complementary glass of Gauthier Vineyard's red or white wines.

Whether you're a history buff or a bacon-lover, you’ll leave with the knowledge (and inspiration) to make your own bacon at home.
